The decisions that steer a shower's cost and layout are best locked in before demolition, while they're still just lines on a plan. One we raise early is whether to turn an unused tub into a walk-in shower — worth doing when the tub sits empty, though we'd keep at least one tub in the house for the next buyer. Another is curbed versus curbless: a zero-threshold shower looks cleaner and is easier to step into, but it calls for recessed framing and a precisely cut slope, so it has to be planned rather than bolted on. The extras — a bench, recessed niches, a second head, blocking for future grab bars — all have to be framed and waterproofed in from the beginning. We also nail down the glass and drain up front, since each one changes how the pan and walls are built.

What Salem showers tend to need

Salem's housing runs a wide range, and the shower work tracks it. What does a shower remodel cost in Salem?
