A few decisions worth making early

The choices that drive a shower's cost and layout are best made before demolition. The one we raise first is whether to convert a tub into a walk-in shower — sensible when the tub goes unused, though we'd nudge you toward keeping at least one tub in the house for resale. Then there's curbed versus curbless: a zero-threshold shower is clean and barrier-free, but it depends on recessed framing and an exact slope. And there are the extras that have to be planned into the framing rather than added afterward — a bench, recessed niches, a second showerhead, or grab-bar blocking for aging in place. We settle the glass and the drain early as well, since both affect how the pan and walls are built.

What Ridgefield showers tend to need

Because so much of Ridgefield is newer construction, the shower we're most often improving is builder-grade — structurally sound but basic, with a compact pan, a plastic surround, and an entry-level door.
