Bathroom remodeling in Forest Grove, built for a damp climate
A bathroom takes more water, steam and daily wear per square foot than any other room in the house, and in the Tualatin Valley it does that through long wet winters. That is why we treat a Forest Grove bathroom remodel as a moisture problem first and a design problem second. JDI Construction is a family-owned design-build remodeler from Vancouver, WA, in business since 2007. We plan the room you will see (tile, vanity, glass, light) at the same time as the room you won't (waterproofing, drains, venting, fan ducting), because a bathroom only lasts when both are done properly.
One team handles the design and the construction. Your layout is drawn by people who know how the shower pan will be built and where the fan duct can exit, so the plan you approve does not get reinterpreted on site.
Small details that decide how the room ages
Most of what makes a bathroom pleasant ten years on comes down to a short list of unglamorous choices:
- 1

LightingFixtures at face height on both sides of the mirror, with a separate, softer source for the rest of the room.
- 2

Vanity & counterWidth, drawer layout and sink count chosen around who shares the room on a weekday morning.
- 3

Outlets & powerGFCI-protected receptacles where the dryer, toothbrush and razor live, wired to current code.
- 4

Exhaust fanSized for the room, quiet enough that people use it, and ducted through the roof or wall to open air.
Three questions to answer before demolition
Start with the tub. If nobody in the house takes baths, the alcove it occupies is usually the right place for a walk-in shower, though we suggest thinking twice before removing the only tub in a home where small children live or a sale is likely. Next, decide how you want to step into the shower. A curbless entry is easier on knees and looks tidy, but the floor framing has to be planned for it from the beginning. Finally, look hard at fixture locations. A toilet or drain that stays where it is costs little to reconnect. One that moves means opening the floor, and in an upstairs bath, possibly the ceiling below. We lay out those trade-offs with the drawings so the choice is informed.
What Forest Grove homes tend to need
Some of Forest Grove's housing is very old by Oregon standards. The Walker-Naylor Historic District, north of downtown and west of Pacific University, holds what the city calls some of the oldest houses in town, and the Clark and Painter's Woods districts south of downtown add many more from the late 1800s through the 1940s. Bathrooms in houses like these were often fitted into space that was planned for something else, so you find narrow rooms, a window inside the tub surround, and drain lines that have been patched by several owners. A remodel is the time to replace aging supply and waste piping while the walls are open, rebuild the subfloor where past leaks have softened it, and give the room a fan that actually exhausts outdoors. Many owners want to keep period character, and classic choices such as hex floor tile or a furniture-style vanity sit comfortably over modern waterproofing.
Forest Grove has also added a great deal of housing since the middle of the last century, and those hall baths and primary baths have a different set of complaints: one-piece fiberglass tub units, a single vanity for two people, a fan that hums without moving air. The structure is generally fine. The work is a better shower, more storage, better light and finishes that will hold up.
Bathrooms we've remodeled around the metro
These projects are from other parts of the metro, not Forest Grove. They show the kind of bathroom work our team does, and each one links to the full before-and-after:
What does a bathroom remodel cost in Forest Grove?
Scope sets the price of a Forest Grove bathroom. Reusing the existing layout with new tile, vanity and fixtures is the modest end. Relocating drains, converting a tub, adding a second sink, heated flooring and custom tile work push the other way, and a primary suite costs more than a hall bath because there is more of everything. Older houses can add plumbing or subfloor repair once the room is opened. We price your bathroom after we have stood in it, and the estimate is itemized so you can adjust it line by line.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
How long the room is out of service depends on how much plumbing moves, how much tile there is, and what the walls reveal. Tile assemblies also need curing time that cannot be hurried. We confirm materials before demolition so the work does not stall waiting on a vanity or valve. On permits, the City of Forest Grove Building Division covers plumbing and building work, and electrical permits are issued through Washington County, so a typical bathroom involves both offices. We handle the applications and inspections, and where your home has a second bathroom we sequence the job so one stays usable.
