A few decisions worth making early

An addition rests on a handful of choices that come before design. The first is direction — out or up. On the larger La Center lots, building out is generally the simpler and more affordable path, since the ground is there to expand into; going up a second story keeps the footprint but means confirming the existing foundation and framing can carry the added load. The second is capacity: whether the foundation, the electrical panel, and the heating and cooling system can serve the new square footage as they are, or need upgrading as part of the work. The third is what the parcel permits — setbacks, lot-coverage limits, and height rules vary by jurisdiction, and for properties on well and septic there are added considerations, so we check the site before drawing. Handling this early keeps the plan matched to the house, the lot, and the budget.
