The island is next: it only earns its footprint with 36 to 42 inches of clear walkway on every side you'll use, so it's worth measuring honestly. Then comes the layout — keeping the sink, range, and refrigerator in place is far cheaper than relocating plumbing, gas, or venting, so we weigh that trade openly. And cabinet style gets locked early on purpose, since cabinets are the longest lead item and their delivery date drives the whole schedule.
