When every room in a Sherwood house comes due at once

A house built in a single season ages in a single season. The carpet, the cabinets, the fixtures and the paint all went in together, and a couple of decades on they wear out together. That is the situation for much of Sherwood, and it is why a whole-house remodel can make more sense here than a series of one-room projects spread over years. JDI Construction is a family-owned design-build remodeler based in Vancouver, WA, operating since 2007. We plan the entire house as one design with one schedule, so the kitchen, the baths, the floors and the systems behind them are decided together.

Design and construction sit with one team at JDI. The designer who lays out your main floor is working with the people who will frame, wire and finish it, which keeps the drawings honest about structure and cost from the first draft.

What holds a whole-house project together

Individual rooms are the easy part. A project this size stands or falls on a few things that run through all of them:

  1. Stunning whole house remodel in Portland, OR
The invisible layerElectrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and insulation, checked and upgraded while access is easy and no finished surface is at risk.
  2. Revitalizing a Portland home: full-scale remodel in Portland, OR
Permits & structureEngineering for any wall that carries load, and every permit applied for and inspected on your behalf.
  3. Luxury whole home remodel in Vancouver, WA
CohesionOne palette of flooring, trim, door styles and hardware, carried from the entry to the last bedroom.
  4. Mid-century ranch exterior refresh in Vancouver, WA
Project managementA single schedule and a project manager who sequences the trades and keeps you informed.

Four calls to make at the start

Where will you live? Staying in the house saves on rent but slows the work, since we have to keep a bathroom, a place to cook and safe paths open. Moving out lets the whole house be worked on at once. How much structure changes? Removing or shifting walls reshapes how the house functions and brings engineering and inspections with it. Which systems are included? A furnace, water heater or electrical panel that is close to the end of its life is simpler to replace during the project than after the new finishes are in. And is it one project or several phases? Phasing spreads the cost, though it also means mobilizing more than once. We put real numbers beside each option during design so the decision is yours to make with full information.

What Sherwood whole-house projects tend to involve

Sherwood had under 3,100 residents at the 1990 census and more than 20,000 by 2020, with the steepest growth in the 1990s and early 2000s. Most homes here were built in that window, on subdivision streets, with layouts that still suit family life. So a whole-house project in Sherwood is usually a matter of renewal and personalization: new flooring throughout, a reworked kitchen and primary suite, updated bathrooms, better lighting, and a few targeted layout changes such as opening a formal room nobody uses or turning a bonus room into a proper office or guest space. It is also the right moment to deal with original mechanical equipment and anything else that has reached the end of its expected service.

The exception is Old Town and the streets around it, where Sherwood began as Smockville in the late 1800s. A whole-house remodel of one of those older homes is weighted toward what is inside the walls (wiring, supply and drain lines, insulation, sometimes framing repairs) and the finishes follow. In both cases the work is permitted locally: the City of Sherwood Building Department reviews plans and inspects structural, plumbing and mechanical work, while electrical permits come from Washington County.

Whole-home work in Portland and Vancouver

We have not placed a Sherwood project in this list, because these four are in Portland and Vancouver, WA. They are here to show what a full-house scope from our team looks like when it is finished:

What does a whole-house remodel cost in Sherwood?

There is no useful average, because two houses of the same size can have very different scopes. The total follows the number of rooms being rebuilt versus refreshed, how many walls move, which systems are replaced, and the finish level you choose for cabinets, counters, flooring and tile. We also carry a contingency for conditions that only appear once surfaces come off. Planning the house as one project lets us price it as one project: you see a single itemized estimate, with each room and each system broken out, and you can adjust scope before construction, when changes are still cheap.

How long does a whole-house remodel take?

Think in months. Design, engineering and permit review come first, and construction follows a fixed order: demolition, framing changes, rough plumbing, electrical and mechanical, inspections, insulation, drywall, then cabinets, tile, flooring and trim. Long-lead materials are ordered early so they are not what the job waits on. You will get a schedule with milestones before we start, and the client portal shows where things stand as the work moves through the house.

Why Sherwood homeowners hire JDI

On a project with this many parts, a single point of responsibility is worth a great deal. Our team carries the design, the permits, the construction and a 5-year workmanship warranty, and we are licensed in Oregon, bonded and insured. A note on logistics, since it matters on a job that lasts months: we are based in Vancouver, WA, and Sherwood sits on the far southwest side of the Portland metro. We travel to you and organize the calendar around that, with planned site days, materials delivered ahead of the people who install them, and regular updates in between.

  • ★★★★★
Good work. They started the job before they had all the materials in hand so there was a 2 week delay in finishing the job. The installation was well done & there were no problems. Owner kept in touch about the job (was at a rental) and where they were in the process. I really appreciated that.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Whole House Remodeling in Sherwood

Why remodel a newer Sherwood home rather than move up?

With Sherwood's market, many families find it makes more sense to make their current home fit than to buy and move. A whole-home remodel lets us personalize a builder home, upgrade finishes throughout, reconfigure spaces, and add the features you actually want, without leaving the neighborhood and schools you chose.

What's worth planning before we begin?

We discuss budget and design goals, confirm any HOA or design-review requirements, and plan how your family will live during construction. Sorting these out early keeps the project smooth, and we phase the work so daily life stays manageable.

Can you finish a bonus room, loft, or unfinished space?

Definitely. Newer Sherwood homes often have bonus rooms, lofts, or tandem garage space ripe for conversion into offices, media rooms, or guest suites. We handle the insulation, electrical, and finishes to turn underused square footage into real living space.

Can you reconfigure a floor plan that doesn't quite work?

Yes. Even newer layouts can have awkward spots, a closed-off den, an oversized formal room no one uses. We can open or repurpose spaces, addressing any structural elements, so the home better matches how your family actually lives.

What exterior materials do you recommend for the long haul?

For our climate, fiber cement siding and quality roofing offer the best durability against moisture. If your home is in an HOA, we help you choose materials and colors that satisfy community standards while improving performance.

How long does a whole-home remodel take?

Most run several months depending on scope. We provide a milestone schedule after assessment and keep it updated, so you always know what's happening next.

How do you keep quality high throughout?

We use dependable materials, skilled trades, and phase-by-phase inspections rather than a single final check. On a whole-home project, that consistent oversight is what ensures the entire home is solid, not just the parts you see first.
