How We Rank Remodelers

By the JDI Construction teamFacts checked November 2, 2026Rechecked quarterly

JDI Construction wrote this page, and we are one of the companies on it. Every company is scored the same way, on public facts linked below, using the published method. You can change the weights and re-rank the list yourself. Facts checked November 2, 2026.

Quick answer

Every company on our lists is scored out of 100 on seven public facts: license and years registered, client reviews, written warranty, Clark County presence, published prices, independent recognition and complaint record. JDI is scored by the same rules and placed wherever its score lands.

The seven criteria

CriterionPointsHow it is scored
License and track record155 points for an active Washington L&I contractor registration (no registration, not listed). Plus 1 point for every 2 years registered in Washington, up to 10.
Client reviews25Up to 15 for the review-weighted average rating across the platforms we could open (4.0 = 0, 5.0 = 15). Up to 10 for review volume on a log scale (10 reviews = 3.3, 100 = 6.7, 1,000 or more = 10).
Written warranty153 points per year of published workmanship warranty, up to 15 at 5 years. Where coverage is split (for example 5 years on own crews, 2 on subcontracted work) we use the average. No published terms = 0.
Clark County presence1515 for an office in Clark County. 8 when the company's own service area names Clark County, Vancouver or Camas. Otherwise 0.
Price transparency1010 for published price ranges for this type of project, 5 if published figures conflict or are partial, 0 if none.
Independent recognition10Highest of: a national industry award in the last 5 years (10), a regional or county award (7), platform awards such as Best of Houzz or GuildQuality Guildmaster (5). None = 0.
Complaint record1010 for a BBB A+ rating with 0 complaints in the last 3 years. 6 with complaints on file. 5 if no BBB rating was found.

Why these criteria, and their limits

We picked facts a homeowner can check in a few minutes and that say something about how a project will go: whether the contractor is licensed, what past clients say, what is promised in writing, whether help is nearby, and whether prices are out in the open.

We chose the weights, and we are on the lists, so the weights are a judgment call. Clark County presence and written warranty are worth 30 points between them; both favor a local firm like ours. That is why every list lets you change the weights. If you care most about track record or national awards, turn those up and the order changes.

A 0 on reviews, prices or warranty means we could not find that fact on a public page we could open. It reflects missing public information, not a bad rating, and it changes at the next quarterly check if the company publishes it. Ratings shown only on a company's own website are labeled and still counted.

The weights change the order. On our design-build list, for example, setting Clark County presence and warranty to 0 and tripling independent recognition puts Mountainwood Homes first and JDI second.

Some things matter a lot and are not scored, because there is no fair public number for them: design taste, how well a team fits you, and how busy a company is this season. Meet at least two firms before you sign.

Our rules for these pages

  • Only facts we could open and read on a public page. Each one is linked, with the date we checked it.
  • Ratings from aggregators (for example Google ratings shown on Birdeye) are labeled as such.
  • Limits are stated as facts, such as "no written warranty terms published", never as opinions about a company's work.
  • No paid placement. No company paid to be listed or ranked.
  • Unproven allegations are not published.
  • A company must hold an active Washington L&I contractor registration to be listed.
  • Facts are rechecked every quarter, and the date on each page changes when we do.
